Preparation for Adulthood
Preparation for Adulthood (PFA) is a framework that underpins all we do at Meadowfield School.
We integrate PFA into our curriculum, to support all aspects of a child’s growth.
Key Themes of PFA at Meadowfield:
- We encourage Community Inclusion by promoting participation in local activities and focusing on building social skills and relationships. We partner with local organisations, for volunteering and social opportunities.
- We prioritise Good Health, promoting physical and mental well-being, as well as teaching self-care and health management.
- We focus on Independent Living, developing daily living skills and encouraging decision-making and self-advocacy.
- We support Employment, exploring work experiences and skill development to prepare students for the transition into the workforce or further education. We help our students to understand the workplace, career progression and digital employability.
How we implement PFA at Meadowfield:
- We embed PFA themes in our lesson plans and activities through Curricular Integration.
- We provide Skill Development lessons focused on life skills, health management, and employment readiness. This includes topics such as eating, cooking, personal care and household management.
- We offer Personalised Learning by tailoring education plans to meet individual needs and aspirations.
- We ensure Collaboration with Families, involving parents and carers in the planning process. We are committed to raising awareness of options available to leavers, and actively engaging parents and carers in making informed choices
The PFA framework underpins our mission to prepare pupils for a fulfilling life beyond school.
We are committed to collaborative efforts among staff, parents, and community partners to strengthen the transition process and provide a supportive network for pupils.
